Question : Where can I find the POI FINDER ID which I need for my registration?
Answer : After you install POI FINDER on your PC it should automatically start on your SatNav device and will go to the next step of activating the program. If POI FINDER doesn´t start automatically then try resetting your SatNav device (on the side of most devices is a small reset button which you can push with a pen-tip or a paperclip to operate). As the device restarts it should automatically open POI FINDER or you will see a small red box in one corner of the screen - click on it to start POI FINDER. The POI FINDER ID is found above the entry field for the registration code, this is the ID which you need to use, as well as the voucher code, to complete the registration on our internet site.

Question : The registration code that I entered is not accepted

Answer : This can be caused by a number of errors:
- You have mistakenly entered your ID incorrectly. In this case go to the website www.navigating.de/reg and correct your registration
- In front of or behind the registration code are blank spaces or other characters which do not belong to the registration code
- You have a version of POI FINDER installed which is not compatible with your navigation system (SatNav device). Perhaps you have purchased POI FINDER Basic and now want to load a new version from our website. In this case you should un-install the software and re-install the correct version. Devices linked with the Activ-Sync tool can use the menu "extras-software" in Activ-sync to do this.

Question : The POI FINDER ID shown in the POI FINDER registration window and the POI FINDER ID in the confirmation email are not the same.

Answer : Please visit the website www.navigating.de/reg and correct your registration. The correct POI FINDER ID is always the one which is shown in the POI FINDER registration window on your device.

Question : POI FINDER doesn´t start on my SatNav system even after I have tried the reset button. (only for models from device type 1, or device colour code1)
Answer : In this case either the software installed is incorrect or the installation has been made with a card reading device and not a direct PC connection to the device. Please uninstall the software and install the correct program. For devices connected with the Activ-snyc tool you can use the menu "extras - software" to uninstall unwanted software.

If you are not sure which software your SatNav device uses then look under the menu "settings" on the device (the details are normally found in the Info category), or look on the CD supplied with your SatNav device.

Question : I have POI FINDER Basic (Plus) for my SatNav device, which is a colour code 1 SatNav device, and I have problems installing more POIs onto the device.

Answer : The POIs for speed cameras for D/A/CH were included as you installed the software, and these POIs occupy 4265 of a possible 5000 POI locations on the system. To free space for other POIs you might want to use you must remove some of the speed camera POI files.

To do this open POI FINDER on your SatNav device and stop the monitoring. Then go to the menu "POI-Manager -> POI Settings -> Acoustic Warnings" and deactivate the warning for the data you want to remove by clicking on the + / - button and clearing the ticked box (i.e. delete the tick in the box) for each of the files shown in the following display. Repeat this procedure in the menu "POI-Manager -> POI Settings -> Overlay Settings. You should now go to the option "POI-Manager -> Remove overlays" to remove the data from your device, and thus free the space up for other POIs which you can select from our database.

If you want to be able to display more POIs then you should purchase POI FINDER 3.0 or POI FINDER Bargain Hunter Guide, as neither of these has a limit on the number of POIs that may be displayed.

Question : After registering my POI FINDER I didn´t receive the email confirming my registration details

Answer : Please check that this email has not been blocked by your email account´s spam filter (this can happen especially with some @web.de, @aol.com or @t-online email addresses). If you go to the POICON webpage www.poicon.com/download you can find an option "Forgotten password or username?". With this option you can resend the email to your email address. Please note you will receive a new password as a result and should use it in future.

Question : I have POI FINDER Basic and a Medion GoPal 1.x, Medion Navigator 4 or a JVC KV-PX070 SatNav device
.
Answer : Please contact our support team.

Question : The software will not install on my Garmin / my Navman SatNav device.

Answer : To use both of these devices you need to have the sychronisation software "POI-Loader" (for Garmin) or "Reference-point Editor" (found on the CD supplied with Navman) installed. You can find further information here

Question : The software will not install on my Becker / my Navigon SatNav device.

Answer : If you have a Becker or a Navigon SatNav device then please check if you have the latest update installed. For more information click here.

Question : Falk 5.0 won´t start after I have installed POIs. I get the following error message
Answer : To remove the error connect the SatNav device with your PC using the Activ-sync tool. Copy the file "POI.cfg" from the directory "\My Flask Disk\Navigator" on your SatNav device to your PC and then open the file on your PC using the editor (double click on the file and choose editor from the list shown). You should be able to see a pattern in the data listed. One of the data entries is not complete (e.g. D Blitzer fest 40km/h). Compete the missing data entry and then save the file. Now you should copy the corrected Pio.cfg file back to your SatNav device and disconnect the USB cable. The navigation software should now start without any problems. As a back-up you should save the old Poi.cfg file on your device. The problem should not re-occur when you update your device in future.

We have a new version of the software ready to download in the updates section. After you have corrected the mistake by following the instructions or doing a new installation from the CD please use the new version which you can find on our updates page. We apologise for the difficulties!

Question : I cannot activate the software on my JVC KV-PX70E and I am using POI FINDER 3.0 or POI FINDER bargain hunter guide.

Answer : Here we have discovered a production mistake in the link to our registration page, and we apologise for this. If you have already registered and the activation doesn´t work then please contact our support team. If you have not yet tried to register then please use the registration on our updates page.

Question : POI FINDER has not been installed on your SatNav device.

Answer : Please check that you have chosen the right SatNav device when in the installation menu. Please do not change the recommended installation directory. One exception : If you are using a PDA (pocket PC), then the usual file installation path may not have been used. Please check that Microsoft Activ-Sync or Windows mobile device centre (windows vista) is installed on your PC and that the SatNav device connected to your computer is switched on.

Question : What does POI stand for?

Answer : POI is the abbreviation for Points of Interest. That means special locations and insider tips such as Bank machines, Post boxes, Hot-spots, Fastfood chains, low priced petrol stations, car and motorcycle garages, museums, leisure parks and lots more. Fixed and mobile speed cameras are also POIs that you can use if you have the appropriate version of POI FINDER.

Question : What are the system requirements so that POI FINDER can be installed correctly?

Answer : For the installation and use of POI FINDER you only need a PC which meets very minimal technical requirements and a SatNav system which is compatible with POI FINDER. The exact system requirements you can find on our webpage click here.

Question : How much memory space does POI FINDER software need?

Answer : The individual components and services from POI FINDER need the following memory space on your SatNav system:

Comfort-Software (only relevant, when your mobiles SatNav supports this)   800 KB
Speed camera files (fixed and mobile)   1,33 MB
Bank machines  1,58 MB
Post boxes  444 KB
Hot-Spots  688 KB
Fastfood chains  176 KB
Car and motorcycle garages  1,36 MB
Museums  17 KB
Leisure parks  6 KB

In total you need for special locations and insider tips around 5.73MB and if using comfort software then an additional 800KB.

Question : Can the installation of POI FINDER affect the performance of my SatNav device?

Answer : No, as a result of direct co-operation with the leading SatNav manufacturers the software is integrated into the system and starts automatically whenever the system software starts.

Question : Does the POI FINDER software affect the speed at which my SatNav system work?

Answer : No, the POI FINDER software has no effect on the speed of the SatNav device.

Question : What does the word "Overlay" mean?

Answer : The word "Overlay" is a technical expression for the display of a collective group of special locations / insider tips on the map on your SatNav device.

Quelle: AutoConnect 12/2006

Question : What do I need Microsoft Activ-sync or a synchronisation program for?

Answer : Depending on what sort of SatNav device you use you will need Activ-sync to connect your SatNav to your PC. In other cases the device will be recognised as removable media and you should not need the synchronisation software from Microsoft.

Question : The POI FINDER cannot open an internet connection - the server name is shown above but all the other categories (lists of Overlays) remain empty.

Answer : If you are connected to the internet over a proxy server then choose the menu "POI-sync -> POI settings -> Extras -> Proxy". Then click on proxy and give the proxy address in the field Proxy-server. The port address will be entered into the field proxy port. If you have a username or a password for the proxy, then enter these in the appropriate fields. Confirm your entry with OK. A further cause could be a firewall which is, for instance, very restrictively configured and thereby won´t allow any access to our server.

Question : The POI FINDER gives me the message "You are not registered for this pay-for-use Overlay" (or a similar message)

Answer : You are not registered for our premium pay-for-use Overlays. Please either remove the overlay from your selection of overlays to synchronise, or purchase this service from our premium content page.

Question : No overlays are displayed in the overlay settings.

Answer : The previous synchronisation was successful but the save function may not have correctly saved the data. A possible reason is that the SD card has its write protection enabled, or the memory may be full. Check if the write protection is on / if the memory is full (and change one/both as necessary) and then repeat the first step of the synchronisation.

Question : No POIs are being shown on my display.

Answer : Please check that the selected POIs are present at that location. POI FINDER does not show POIs when the map is on a small scale (i.e. is covering a large land area), so if you have zoomed out there will be no POIs shown. If you zoom into the map then you should see a POI in the chosen area. If in doubt centre on a large city where there will almost definitely be more than one POI from different categories (e.g. fastfood - McDonalds, Burger King, banking - Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank etc.) to be seen.
